SEDEX AUDIT – SMETA

SMETA is mainly reducing duplication in ethical auditing. It designed for suppliers to share one audit with multiple customers and meeting multiple customer requirements. SMETA has three common elements:
– Best Practice Guidance on conducting ethical trade audits
– Audit Report format
– Corrective Action Plan format
Nearly 20,000 SMETA audits are uploaded onto the Sedex platform every year.
SEDEX members have agreed the Best Practice Guide, a common methodology to improve audit standards and promote mutual acceptance of audit reports. In addition to the principles in the ETI Base Code, SMETA also review performance against the right to work of migrant workers, management systems and implementation, sub-contracting and home working and environmental issues.

C-TPAT AUDIT


The Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) is a voluntary United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program which is also supported by the Department of Homeland Security. The initiative intends to seek voluntary cooperative relationships between CBP and organizations such as importers, carriers, and brokers who agree to ensure the integrity of their security practices. These organizations also must communicate their security guidelines to trading and supply chain partners. The program was launched in November 2001 with seven initial participants, which were all large U.S. companies.

CTPAT 5 Step Risk Assessment Process includes:

  1. Mapping Cargo Flow and Identifying Business Partners (directly or indirectly contracted)
    2. Conducting a Threat Assessment focusing on: Terrorism, Contraband Smuggling, Human Smuggling, Organized Crime, and conditions in a country/region which may foster such threats and rate threat – High, Medium, Low
    3. Conducting a Vulnerability Assessment in accordance with C-TPAT Minimum Security Criteria and rate vulnerability – High, Medium, Low
    4. Preparing an Action Plan
    5. Documenting How Risk Assessments are conducted
